The stationeries for saving rain forests

Asian rain forests are irreplaceable for the Earth as same as African and South American Jangles. It has given us pregnant blessing.

The rain forests supplies us woods and papers, and it is utopia for many species of animals and plants. And, what’s more, it held an important place for global warming by absorbing Carbon dioxide. And then, it defends people’s life and living from harms the rages from the natures.

Now these irreplaceable rain forests face a crisis. The area has been reducing rapidly by unplanned cutting. Southeast Asia is not an exception. Of all others, Indonesia is seriousness. The lost square measure is largest by far of any other countries in Southeast Asia.

We can point out the causes. The background is promoting unplanned large-scale agriculture, expansion of slash-and-burn agriculture, large-scale plantation aimed at thoughtless money income. Besides, it laps trailing of government’s measures for conservation of rain forests; it is not easy way to solve this problem.

But it is starting to improvement movement. In Indonesia too. They start to planning of artificial plantation and fair-trading of woods. It is producing fruit steadily.

Above all those, remarkable movements are designing with wood- magno, which was started by Mr. Singgih Kartono. His concept is “Less wood more works”. Mr. Kartono produces high-designed, beautiful and simple wooden products from Indonesian wood.

We can see his philosophy and thoughts towards wood from his works strongly. He thinks the wood is the material which has “strength and weakness ”,”Hardness and Softness”. He practices hand-made and simple design for bringing out the wood’s natural beauty. But his exploit is not only this.

He teaches peoples a woodwork technique, and he gives jobs, which is necessary thing for people’s living.  And moreover, he plans to plant woods for producing magno.

“magno” comes English word “magnify”. The beautiful works have power to leading peoples, who watch it, into the detail. In this meaning, Mr. Kartono makes a success. Because he is leading many peoples to notice the new relationship between forest and people.   It is a notable movement - his design for coexistence with the rain forest and peoples living.

Radio Kayu dari Kandangan [2008-06-18]

Berawal dari sebuah kegagalan, produknya kini menembus pasar luar negeri. Semua materi dari tanaman di kampung halaman. SUARA bening, tampilan yahud, menghasilkan duit pula. Begitulah radio kayu buatan Singgih Kartono, 40 tahun. Merknya Magno. Radio ini tak beda dengan radio lain, kecuali bahwa kotaknya terbuat dari kayu pinus dan sonokeling yang halus dan rapi—cantik luar biasa.

A gift or present is the transfer of something, without the need for compensation that is involved in trade. A gift is a voluntary act which does not require anything in return. Even though it involves possibly a social expectation of reciprocity, or a return in the form of prestige or power, a gift is meant to be free.In many human societies, the act of mutually exchanging money, goods, etc. may contribute to social cohesion. Economists have elaborated the economics of gift-giving into the notion of a gift economy.By extension the term gift can refer to anything that makes the other happier or less sad, especially as a favour, including forgiveness and kindness.
